What Happens if You Don't Get Enough Sleep?

There are a lot of Americans who simply are not getting enough sleep.

In fact, the problem has reached a point where the Centers for Disease Control is calling a lack of sleep a public health epidemic.

Teens may be the biggest victim of this problem that researchers at Columbia University are calling the "great sleep recession." They conducted an extensive survey and found that during a 21 year period teens were getting less and less sleep.

Teenagers should get at least nine hours of sleep and school aged children need between nine and ten hours. But the average is only seven.

So what happens if you don't get enough sleep? It can cause you to eat more.. it also shrinks your brain.

Sleep deprivation is also linked to Type 2 diabetes.

If you don't enough rest you could also have slow reaction time, which isn't good for things like driving, and you may develop false memories.
