Harsh Winter Leads to Salt Shortage, Potholes

The brutal cold poses another problem for many of us here in Ohio and other areas across the country... and that's a salt shortage.

Communities in parts of the state, including Chagrin Falls and Stow in northeast Ohio and Cincinnati in the southwest, are running short on road salt.

Cities waiting for more salt have implemented methods to conserve what they do have left. But did you know the salt also plays a role in road conditions long after winter has passed?

Yes, we're talking about potholes. Potholes form when water slips through cracks in the pavement. They pop up more frequently in the winter due to cold temps and snow.

These craters in the road may look just like a puddle, but it's a splash of bad luck if your vehicle falls victim to a flat tire.
