Voters in Spain March in Anti-Austerity Protest

Thousands of people are protesting in Madrid, Spain in support of the left-wing, anti-austerity "podemos" party.

Austerity means severe or strict. In economics, austerity measures generally refer to reduced spending, and budget cuts - measures not always received well by the public.
the anti-austerity party in Spain has surged in popularity since it was formed one year ago.

Voters in Spain will go to the polls in November this year, and while the recession is officially over, about one out of four people remain unemployed. The march comes less than a week after an anti-austerity party swept to power in Greece.
