Some of the topics in Harper Lee's book deal with tough issues, and schools sometimes censor what students can read.
To censor means to suppress, or remove, information that may be considered harmful or objectionable. In addition to individuals and organizations, some governments also censor material to restrict political discussion and criticism.
China has long had a ban in place blocking certain websites or search results. But tech savvy users were able to find work-arounds to gain access to those censored sites , including Google, Facebook and twitter. The government's censorship of the internet has been taken to a new level this week, as the Chinese government has stepped up its internet security, making it more difficult for internet users to access banned websites.

In that story you heard the term draconian. It's used to describe when something is overly severe or harsh. It's often used to refer to laws or policies that are considered to be too severe.
