Scientists Have Invented a Real-Life Cloaking Device

Everyone who's ever seen Harry Potter has thought about owning a cloak of invisibility. But some scientists in New York are close to making it really happen.

Watch the tests from researchers at the University of Rochester.

They have created what they call a 3D, multidirectional cloaking device. It uses ordinary lenses to obscure objects from sight at different angles, actually bending light as it passes. The inventors say the device could be used by surgeons to see around their hands, or by drivers, to avoid blind spots as they travel.

The scientists admit being surprised that people are so excited about their creation.
