When the first movie came out in that series, the year was 1985 and the minimum wage in Ohio was $2.30. This refers to the lowest compensation an employee can receive for performing labor.
As of the first of the year, Ohio joined 19 other states in raising the minimum wage. For the first time, the majority of states now have minimum wages above the federal minimum, which is $7.25.
The Economic Policy Institute says the wage increases will effect about 2.4 million employees. In some states, such as Massachusetts and Minnesota, it's a fairly big pay bump -- one dollar per hour. Here in Ohio, the wage went up 15 cents to $8.10.
