Ebola Update: Status of Quarantined Individuals

The quarantine period for dozens of people who were in contact with Ebola patient Thomas Duncan before he was hospitalized has ended. Family members and contacts of Thomas Duncan breathed sighs of relief this week, as they've all cleared the 21 day observation period without falling ill. they are no longer at risk of contracting the disease.

Here in Ohio, health officials continue to monitor contacts of the second Dallas health care worker who contracted Ebola, Amber Vinson.Vinson visited Tallmadge and Cleveland in Ohio, before falling ill with the disease, prompting officials to proactively quarantine three people and to monitor many others who had contact with her.

The state says this is a precautionary measure, since the disease is only spread through direct contact with bodily fluids once a patient starts showing symptoms.

No other cases of Ebola have been reported in Ohio or in the U.S. Vinson and Nina Pham, the first nurse to contract Ebola, are both said to be in stable condition.
