As teenagers begin the school year, they may be missing one crucial supply: Sleep. Dr. Margaret Stager, director of adolescent and young adult medicine at The MetroHealth System and a researcher with the American Academy of Pediatrics, says adolescents need around eight hours of sleep a night. But early school start times and excessive exposure to laptops, smartphones and tablets can make it tough to get enough rest. ideastream’s Rick Jackson asked Dr. Stager for strategies parents can use to help adolescents develop and maintain a healthy nighttime routine.
