The deaths of two famous, beloved people have shone a light on rising number of suicides in the United States. Chef and television host Anthony Bourdain, and fashion designer Kate Spade both took their own lives last week. The CDC reports that the United States' suicide rate has risen 25 percent since 1999. Half of deaths by suicide are caused by severe depression. To better understand these findings and learn the different ways depression presents in people, ideastream's Rick Jackson spoke with Dr. Ewald Horwath, a psychiatrist with the MetroHealth System.
