The expression "take a hike” has a whole new meaning for Everett Brandt. Beginning this week, the Lakewood man intends to hike the Buckeye Trail -- a more than 1,400-mile path around the perimeter of Ohio -- in just 38 days. If he hits that ambitious goal, Brandt, a middle school music teacher, will be able to tell his students that, on his summer vacation, he set a record for speed hiking the trail. Brandt starts his adventure in Akron and plans to document the journey on his Instagram account. He spoke with ideastream's Rick Jackson and Kevin Morrissey about his motivation, his training and what’s in his pack.
