Program Aims To Connect Akron’s Working Poor With Banks

A recent report from the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation and the nonprofit, Prosperity Now, claims seven percent of U.S. households are unbanked, which means no one in the house has a checking or savings account. In Akron, that number is 13 percent, twice the American average. Which is why a group of agencies there are embarking on a new venture called Bank on Rubber City.

Bank on is a national effort that creates pathways for people to use banks - not to fear them - and which, until now hasn't been active in Ohio.
