Mammograms: What To Make Of Screening Guidelines

New figures from the American Cancer Society show breast cancer deaths have decreased in the United States by 39 percent, averting more than 322,600 deaths. The report tracked data from 1989 to 2015. Much of the reduction in breast cancer mortality is attributed to earlier detection -- and to advances in treatment. Dr. Laura Shepardson of the Cleveland Clinic joins us to discuss what women should know about the current mammogram screening guidelines.

During Breast Cancer Awareness Month, ideastream wants to share the message of early detection and increased awareness through the stories of those most impacted. If you’re going through treatment or you’re a breast cancer survivor – do you remember where you were when you got your diagnosis? How you got the news... and how you reacted?

Email your stories to ideas@ideastream.org or send us a message on Facebook. Sharing your story might inspire someone else.
