Doctors in Ohio can now prescribe only seven days of opioids for adults in acute pain, according to regulations that went into effect last week -- an effort to curb dependence on the powerful drugs.
But what about chronic pain?
A large scale-pilot program launched at the Cleveland Clinic is exploring ways to re-think treatment of chronic back and leg pain, in which prescription of opioids will be considered -- but not as the starting point.
