Living Black History at Lake View Cemetery featuring William Otis Walker

To engage high school students and develop their appreciation for Black History Month, ideastream is hosting Living Black History at Lake View Cemetery in the Westfield InsuranceTM Studio Theatre located in the Idea Center® at Playhouse Square. This February, four inspiring lectures will showcase the lives of prominent African-Americans buried at Lake View Cemetery. Moderated by Dee Perry, the presentations will be held every Wednesday throughout the month of February at 10am.

William Otis Walker will be featured on February 28 th.  Walker was cofounder of the Washington DC Tribune in 1912, and moved to Cleveland in 1932 to manage the Call & Post.  As Ohio’s director of industrial relations from 1963-1971, he became the first black to hold a cabinet level position in Ohio state government.  Walker was president of the local chapters of the Negro Business League, the Urban League and the NAACP.
