Opened in 1963, Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C) is Ohio's first community college and remains one of the state's largest community colleges, serving more than 51,000 students each year. To date, more than 900,000 county residents have come through Tri-C's doors.
As president of Cuyahoga Community College, Dr. Alex Johnson focuses on strengthening the college’s 50-year mission of providing high-quality, accessible, and affordable educational opportunities and services. As of July, he is also serving as Chair of the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) Board of Directors. The AACC represents about 1,200 two-year institutions, serving as an advocacy organization for the colleges.
Since becoming president in July 2013, he has instituted programs to strengthen access, equity, success and completion for the nearly 55,000 credit and non-credit students each year who attend Tri-C locations. His recent book, Change the Lapel Pin. Personalizing Leadership to Transform Organizations and Communities, based on more than 25 years of experience as a college president, provides insights on how leaders at all levels can improve their chances for success.
