Receiving a cancer diagnosis, and going through the sometimes years-long battle to fight the disease, can have a devastating impact on a person's mental health. A new research report called "Oncology Insights," released today by Cardinal Health in the 10th edition of the journal by the same name, looked at the mental health distress of patients with cancer by surveying more than 240 oncologists nationwide.

It found that more than 80 percent of oncologists frequently see mental illnesses in their cancer patients.
Anxiety and depression top the list, but addiction and PTSD also show up.

The study also found nearly half of physicians believe they have inadequate resources available to support their patients with mental health needs.

This hour, on the "Sound of Ideas," we'll dig into the report with Dr. Bruce Feinberg, a medical oncologist & Vice President and Chief Medical Officer of Cardinal Health Specialty Solutions.
Later this hour, we'll hear how courts moving to digital services during the pandemic is impacting, and in some cases harming, some of the people it hopes to serve.
