Stephanie Nunley and Amy Sabath would both consider themselves more moderate politically, but Nunley, a 36-year-old black woman, leans to the left, and Sabath, a 49-year-old white woman, leans to the right.

This summer, the two came together virtually to discuss where they disagree in ideastream and StoryCorps' One Small Step project, which aims to heal the division in our country.

In this short excerpt of their conversation, they tackle the timely topic of abortion, and we get to hear why the other believes what they believe.

That was Amy Sabath and Stephanie Nunley taking part in the One Small Step Project from ideastream and StoryCorps. This conversation was facilitated and produced by Coordinating Producer Rachel Rood. There's still time to sign up for One Small Step by filling out our questionnaire

You can also head over to 90.3 WCPN's Facebook page to sign up for a special livestream happening Tuesday, November 17th at noon -- when Executive Editor Mike McIntyre will talk to some of the One Small Step participants about their experience reaching across the political divide.

StoryCorps' One Small Step is made possible in part by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.

Rachel is the supervising producer for Ideastream Public Media’s morning public affairs show, the “Sound of Ideas.”
