ideastream® Staff Picks for Favorite "Staycation" Spots:

My favorite place is my backyard! But for local favorites, I'd have to say any of our wonderful lakefront spaces. I like going to Bradstreet's Landing in Rocky River. It's fun to watch the fisherman on the pier and my dog, Luna, play in the lake. Then my husband and I grab an ice cream cone before heading home. Good times!
Bridget De Chagas, Producer, The Sound of Ideas

Hocking Hills, Southeast Ohio
East Harbor State Park, Northwest Ohio
Mohican State Park, Loudenville Ohio
Nelson Ledges State Park, Northeast Ohio
All excellent low cost staycation get away sites.
Jeff Carlton, Technical Producer, The Sound of Ideas.

Sauder Farm and Craft Village in Archbold, Ohio is a restored village that shows what life in Western Ohio was like for the early settlers.
Hale Farm and Village, shows life for the Western Reserve settlers.
The Cleveland Botanical Glass House and Garden. Visit Madagascar and Costa Rica for less than the price of a couple gallons of gas.
The West Side Market. Our very own version of European market places.
Nancy Tatulinski, Senior Engineer

Going to Stan Hywet and then to a concert at Blossom.
Dan Bobkoff, Reporter

Paul Cox, Producer, The Sound of Ideas

I have three favorites:
--Amish Country…around Millersburg and Kidron
--taking my bike to South Bass Island
--the Lake Erie beach at Mentor Headlands
David Kanzeg, Director of Programming

--Taking the kids for a ride on the Rapid. It doesn't matter where. The trip itself is exciting for them.
--The Towpath Trail.
--The Cleveland Metroparks Zoo, the Botanical Garden, the Cleveland Museum of Natural History, the Cleveland Museum of Art, or if we don't want to drive: The Nature Center at Shaker Lakes.
--The beach at Linwood in Vermillion
--The Memphis Kiddie Park (never been but hope to this summer)
Dan Moulthrop, host.

Cedar Point is so cool. I never get tired of rollercoasters. I also really like hiking at different parks in Ohio, especially Yellow Springs (they have a GREAT Ice Cream spot as well). The pool in my backyard is also a summer favorite.
