Learning Curve Community Tour: Education Reporting During Pandemic

The first in our three-part Learning Curve Community Tour series focused on lessons learned from reporting on K-12 education.
The first in our three-part Learning Curve Community Tour series focused on lessons learned from reporting on K-12 education.

For the past five months, ideastream, WKSU and other public media stations across the state have teamed up for a reporting initiative, spearheaded by WKSU, that examines the past, present and future of K through 12 public education in Ohio, called Learning Curve. The reporters looked at important topics like the state of funding for our public schools, where there were opportunity gaps, and of course, how the pandemic has affected learning.

For the first Learning Curve Community Tour conversation, we’re going to hear from those reporters and learn about what they discovered as they looked into the state of education in the State of Ohio. The conversation was held on Facebook Live on Tuesday, May 11th.

This series of conversations is in conjunction with The Sound of Ideas Community Tour, which gives the community an opportunity to weigh in. The pandemic will likely bring lasting changes, and we asked the community what other changes in our public education system need to happen to improve outcomes for all of Ohio’s children.

This hour focused on the overall reporting effort and lessons learned from the series. On Wednesday, May 26, we will focus more deeply on how the pandemic created challenges for parents, students and educators. And the final event will take place Wednesday June 9, with a conversation about solutions that can improve public education for the future.

Register for the next two events here.
