Families With Children Make Up Largest Demographic At Woodhill Homes

We continue our conversation with residents in "Inside the Bricks: Woodhill Bricks"
We continue our conversation with residents in "Inside the Bricks: Woodhill Bricks"

One of Woodhill's largest demographics is kids.   That's because Woodhill is a "family estate," which means the Cuyahoga Metropolitan Housing Authority gives priority for apartments, to families with children.

ideastream reporter/producer Justin Glanville joins us on The Sound of Ideas to bring us the fifth episode of “Inside the Bricks: Woodhill Homes.”  In this conversation we will hear from Woodhill's largest demographic.

Justin takes us inside a kids’ theater program. It used to be called Brick City Theatre, now it's called Cleveland Act Now. Our own David C. Barnett did a great piece about it a few years back. It's a program where kids in public housing neighborhoods across the city work with artists from Cleveland Public Theatre to conceive and put on shows on stage. The goal is to get young people expressing themselves, working together, and letting them know their stories and voices are important.

Then we meet a couple of men currently going through one of the most intense possible experiences -- becoming dads. Woodhill neighbors, but not friends until now, they found camaraderie, in raising their children. And what they've learned — they want to teach.

The conversation about today's program specifically continues with a live stream discussion, hosted by the city club of cleveland, and moderated by Justin, coming up Thursday. Go to cityclub.org at 12:15 p.m. for that conversation, or to text a question for the panelists, use the number 330-541-5794.
