Cleveland City Council meets to discuss how to spend American Rescue Plan Act funds

American Rescue Plan Act

In March of this year, President Biden signed the American Rescue Plan Act into effect.

Known now as ARPA, this $1.9 billion stimulus package is aimed at combatting the economic impacts of the coronavirus pandemic, and is one of the biggest economic packages in US history.

Cities across the country are receiving millions of dollars.

Here in Cleveland, we will be receiving a massive $511 million dollars. The eighth largest award of any locality in the nation.

Cleveland spent part of the year in soliciting residential feedback over how to spend the money, and announced general funding plans in May, and then last month, announced their specific funding plans.

Cleveland City Council in turn is announcing their proposed spending amendments at a meeting this morning.

On the program today, we look at what we know so far about how Cleveland is spending the ARPA funds with our Reporter Matt Richmond.

Later in the hour, we once again discuss the plight of COVID-19 survivors who are dealing with lasting complications, so called – “long haulers.”

A community event this week aims to tell the stories of the long haulers, and offer support. Organizations like The Cleveland Foundation, MetroHealth, and 95.9 WOVU are putting the event together.

Finally, another episode of WKSU’s “Shuffle Podcast.” Amanda Rabinowitz talks with Akron hip-hop duo Free Black!
