An Election Day Snapshot From The Polls and A Preview of Election Night Coverage

It's Election Day, and nearly 100 million votes have already been cast. But big crowds and long lines are still to be exected at polling places nationwide, and here in Ohio.

Our election coverage on The Sound of Ideas includes a stop at a polling place here in Cuyahoga County. We'll also get a sense of what's in store for this evening, with ideastream coverage planned for 90.3 WCPN, WVIZ/PBS, and online, on our social media channels.

Later in the hour; the 1980's were a much different time when you consider the perceptions and understandings most Americans have today. The 1980's were also when the Cleveland chapter of PFLAG was founded.

PFLAG is the country's first, and now largest, organization for LGBTQ people; their parents, families, and allies. Last month, the local group is celebrating its 35th anniversary. Its co-founders, Jane Daroff & Dr. Jes Sellers, were just recognized in Crain's Cleveland Business's Notable LGBTQ Executives for the work they've done for families around the region.

Today we'll take a look back at the history of PFLAG, and how the organization has changed.

Finally, an interview with Paul Beatty. He's a Northeast Ohio native who's new book, "Cuyahoga", tells some tall tales about the founding of our fair city of Cleveland. He sat down with ideastream's Carrie Wise.
