Changing Gears "Hard Labor" LIVE Call In

Across our region and across the country, a serious conversation is underway about the future of the labor movement. In Wisconsin and Ohio, lawmakers are already moving to limit collective bargaining rights for public employees. Now, another, even more emotional question is beginning to be asked: should the Great Lakes states join their Southern counterparts and adopt Right to Work laws?

Changing Gears, the public radio project looking at the reinvention of the Midwest, will host Hard Labor, a regional call-in show,Tuesday March 8 at 2 pm ET/1 pm CT. Hard Labor will be carried on Changing Gears partners WBEZ Chicago, Michigan Radio and ideastream Cleveland, as well as Wisconsin Public Radio stations. will host a simultaneous live chat.

Steve Edwards of WBEZ will host, Micki Maynard, senior editor of Changing Gears and former New York Times senior business correspondent will be in the studio, and the show will feature a variety of guests to look at all sides of the collective bargaining and right to work issue. Nationally known experts Gary Chaison, professor of industrial relations at Clark University, and Kate Bronfenbrenner of Cornell University will participate, as well as NPR correspondent David Schaper and business and labor officials.
