Sesame Street Adds Muppet with Autism

“SESAME STREET” WILL ADD JULIA TO ITS CAST NEXT MONTH. SHE’S A 4-YEAR-OLD MUPPET WHO HAS AUTISM. AUTISM IS A DISORDER THAT IMPAIRS THE ABILITY TO COMMUNICATE AND INTERACT. THE SHOW'S CREATORS SAY THEY HOPE JULIA WILL HELP CHILDREN BETTER UNDERSTAND PLAYMATES WHO HAVE AUTISM.

JULIA, WHO LOVES TO SING - AND CAN MEMORIZE LYRICS BETTER THAN HER YOUNG PEERS - STRUGGLES WITH LOUD NOISES LIKE SIRENS, WHICH CAN CAUSE HER TO
BECOME UPSET.
