NEWSDEPTH QUESTION OF THE WEEK: This week we're celebrating Earth Day. Tell us what project you would start to make our Earth healthier!
Kayleb, Kelan, and Phillip, Pleasant Run Elementary: We kept the world clean by picking up trash from parks and throwing our trash in the recycling bin and trashcan. We recycle at our houses and we recycle paper medal plastic and other things. That is how we kept the world clean and green.
Paiton, Claggett Middle School: If I were to start an Earth Day project it would be called Earth-Day On the Sea, and it would be where everyone cleaned up trash found up around shore. If you wanted, you could take a boat out and scoop out some garbage there too. I think this would be a good way to bring everyone together and good help to the polluted oceans. This would be nice too by parks or other general places.
Cody, Orrville Middle School: My project would be to put recycling bins all over my city, and I would put a note on there saying "Recycling helps the community." It really does help the community and marine life. Most people don't think, they just throw their plastic bottles or whatever they have on the ground.
Bella, Maryland Elementary: I would make our Earth healthier by starting a "no straw" campaign. Did you know that the U.S uses about 500 million straws a day and most of those end up in the ocean? Straws are a big part of pollution in the ocean and if we want that pollution to stop I think it’s going to have to start with getting rid of straws. I think that you should half to ask for a straw instead of always getting one with your drink, because whenever my family goes out to eat we have to ask them for "no straws" because they just immediately put them in your drinks. This is why I think that straws should be banned in the U.S.
Charlotte, Kensington Intermediate: Something I would do to help with pollution is to have groups of people all over the world to sign up and pick up pollution. Like the video said, it can be dangerous for people and animals. One of the main reasons why I would have the groups, is because trash can start taking over parks and other places that everyone likes to go to, but can’t because they don’t want to be by trash.
