NewsDepth A+: Ms. Lambert's Class

THIS WEEK, WE ARE TIPPING OUR HATS, NOT OUR SHOES, TO A CLASS AT SCOTTWOOD ELEMENTARY IN COLUMBUS.

WE RECEIVED AN EMAIL FROM CLARISSA AND ALAYSIA (UH-LAY-SEE-UH), TWO STUDENTS WHO WANTED US TO KNOW ABOUT THEIR CLASS PROJECT CALLED “HATS FOR HARVEY.”

WHEN THEIR CLASS HEARD ABOUT ALL OF THE DESTRUCTION CAUSED BY HURRICANE HARVEY IN TEXAS, THEY DECIDED THEY WANTED TO DO SOMETHING TO HELP.

THEIR INNOVATIVE IDEA WAS A ONE-DAY FUNDRAISER, IN WHICH ANYONE WHO CONTRIBUTED A DOLLAR COULD WEAR A HAT TO SCHOOL.  THE CLASS WORKED TOGETHER TO COMPOSE AND TYPE A LETTER TO THE REST OF THE SCHOOL, EXPLAINING THAT THEY WANTED TO DONATE THE MONEY TO A CHARITY TO HELP HURRICANE VICTIMS IN TEXAS.

THEIR TEACHER, PAULA LAMBERT, TELLS US THAT MANY KIDS BROUGHT MORE THAN THE DOLLAR THEY SUGGESTED, AND SOME KIDS SAID THEY JUST WANTED TO CONTRIBUTE EVEN THOUGH THEY DIDN’T WANT TO WEAR A HAT!

AT THE END OF THE DAY, THE CLASS HAD RAISED $216.19!  “THEY SHOWED GREAT HEARTS AND GREAT GENEROSITY,” MS. LAMBERT WRITES.

WELL, WE’D LIKE TO TAKE OUR HATS OFF TO MS. LAMBERT’S CLASS WITH THIS WEEK’S NEWSDEPTH A-PLUS.
