NewsDepth A+

It's time now to hand out our A+ and this one goes to a teacher and students who've laced up their walking shoes for a great cause. Many of you probably know someone affected by cancer – over a million new cases are diagnosed per year – and, Miss. Kaple, a 6th grade teacher at Sherwood Elementary near Cincinnati, Ohio decided to do something about it.

Since 2008, Miss Kaple, who lost her father to cancer, has been organizing Relay for Life, an event to raise much-needed funds and awareness to save lives from cancer. Last year, every 6th grader at Sherwood walked in the relay in honor of another Sherwood teacher, Mrs. Prues, who struggled with cancer. Many students also used markers to write the name of someone they know affected by cancer on their shirts.

Since 2008, Miss Kaple and the students at Sherwood have raised over $60,000 to fight the disease! So, this week, we're happy to hand out our A+ to Miss Kaple and her spirited sixth graders who are gearing up for another relay in May. Bravo!
