Last week's poll and inbox!

WE HEAR FROM YOU EVERY WEEK. SPEAKING OF, LET’S TAKE A LOOK AT WHAT YOU HAD TO SAY LAST WEEK!
WE ASKED: IF YOU WERE A ZOOKEEPER, WOULD YOU ANNOUNCE AN ANIMAL PREGNANCY? AND MOST OF YOU – 72% SAID YES!
LET’S SEE WHY YOU VOTED THIS WAY BY OPENING UP OUR INBOX!
[INBOX]
CC FROM BATH ELEMAENTARY REALLY STEPPED INTO THE ZOOKEEPER’S SHOES, TELLING US:
YES, I WOULD ANNOUNCE AN ANIMAL PREGNANCY AT A ZOO. I THINK IT COULD BE AN EVENT WHERE PEOPLE COULD COME AND SEE THE PREGNANT MOTHER, AND, EVENTUALLY THE BABY. WHEN THE BABY IS BEING BORN, I WOULD CLOSE IT OFF IN A NICE, QUIET AREA FOR THE MOM AND NEW BABY BECAUSE THE MOM IS TIRED AND THE BABY PROBABLY DOESN'T WANT TO SPEND THE FIRST FEW MOMENTS OF HIS OR HER LIFE SURROUNDED BY TOURISTS OOHING AND SNAPPING PHOTOS.
JATANYAH FROM SAINTJEROME SCHOOL ALSO THOUGHT ANNOUNCING IT IS A GOOD IDEA, WRITING: I PICKED YES BECAUSE, I THINK A LOT OF PEOPLE ARE INTERESTED IN FINDING OUT ABOUT ANIMALS AND THEIR PREGNANCY. ZOOS EVERYWHERE SHOULD HAVE SOME TYPE OF NEWS OR INFORMATION ABOUT ANIMALS SO THAT PEOPLE CAN STAY TUNED IN WITH ANIMALS. I THINK THAT IT CAN BE VERY EDUCATIONAL IN AN EVERYDAY CLASSROOM EXPERIENCE, ESPECIALLY IN SCIENCE CLASS.
BUT NICOLE FROM MARYLAND ELEMENTARY DISAGREED, TELLING US:
I PICKED NO, I WOULDN'T ANNOUNCE AN ANIMAL PREGNANCY, BECAUSE EVEN THOUGH DOING THAT WOULD ATTRACT A LOT OF ATTENTION AND WOULD MAKE LOTS OF MONEY, I DON'T LIKE USING ANIMALS AS A MONEY MAKING MACHINES.
ALSO, I THINK THE ANIMALS WOULD WANT THEIR OWN PRIVACY, NOT A WHOLE BUNCH OF PEOPLE STARING AT IT WHILE IT'S GIVING BIRTH.
EMILY FROM GREENBRIER MIDDLE SCHOOL WAS ON THE FENCE, SHE WRITES: I CAN'T DECIDE IF I WOULD KEEP THE BIRTH OR PREGNANCY OF A NEW ANIMAL A SECRET OR NOT. IF YOU ANNOUNCED IT YOUR ZOO WOULD GET MORE MONEY BECAUSE PEOPLE WOULD WANT TO SEE IF THE BABY WAS BORN YET. ON THE OTHER HAND, IF YOU KEPT IT A SECRET THE MOTHER WOULD PROBABLY GET LESS STRESSED OUT FROM ALL THE VISITORS BECAUSE THE MOTHER WOULD ONLY HAVE AN AVERAGE AMOUNT OF VISITORS. KEEPING IT A SECRET WOULD PROBABLY BE A LITTLE BIT OF A BETTER IDEA. AND, FINALLY, SADIE FROM EVENING STREET ELEMENTARY HAD A MORE PERSONAL REASON FOR NOT WANTING ZOOS TO SHARE THE NEWS OF BABY: I CHOSE NO BECAUSE THEN THE ZOOS WOULD BE LESS CROWDED WHEN THEY DO COME. I LIKE IT WHEN THE ZOOS AREN'T CROWDED. PEOPLE ARE ALWAYS SO TALL AND, SAY, IF A BABY BOB-CAT WAS BEING BORN AND THE ZOO TOLD EVERYONE, THEN THE BOB-CAT PART OF THE ZOO WOULD BE SUPER CROWDED. SO MANY PEOPLE ARE SO TALL, AND SINCE I AM ONLY EIGHT, I AM SMALL -- AND THAT WOULD MAKE IT HARD FOR ME TO SEE THE OTHER BOB-CATS.
THANKS, SADIE! AND THANKS ALSO TO EMILY, NICOLE, JATANYAH, AND CC FOR YOUR THOUGHTFUL LETTERS! IT’S CLEAR THAT YOU ALL CARE VERY MUCH ABOUT ANIMALS – AND WHAT WE CAN LEARN FROM THEM.
