Inbox: How Do You Stay Safe Online?

Last week, we learned about facial recognition software that can search the web for photos of people. We asked how you stay safe online, and here are some of your great answers!

Brand, Edison Elementary School in Willoughby: I stay safe online by having a strong password and complex. I would not give my personal information. I also use a Fire Wall for extra protection. I keep my profile always updated, you should always click on things safely.

Juliana, Groveport Elementary School in Groveport: How I stay safe online is I don't give strangers my personal information. For example, I don't use my real name on video games. I use a fake name. But I do use my real name on school websites (and NewsDepth). I also don't talk about my personal life in chat rooms and I of course do not talk to people on the Internet I don't know.

Emma, McCormick Middle School in Wellington: I stay safe online by not giving out personal information like my age, address, location, phone number, and sometimes even my real name. I can also stay safe by not clicking random ads because they could lead to computer viruses. Sometimes if a random person keeps sending me messages online and I don't know who they are I block them. That is how I stay safe online. P.S stay safe online all the time.

Zuri, Orchard Park Elementary School in Kettering: I stay safe online by not sharing passwords or my personal information with anyone. I always am careful and check multiple times for a green lock on the top left of the screen. If I must chat while on a website, I make sure I know who I am talking to and never say my address, name, or any other personal information. I ask my teachers and trusted adults which websites are safe.

Madelynne, Walter G. Nord School in Amherst: What I do to stay safe online is I make sure that nobody can see my passwords. Also, I don't talk to random people online even if they say they are my age. I also NEVER tell kids were I live even if they say they just want to hang out with me in real life because you never know if they could be lying. Another thing I do to stay safe is if I have an app that you take pictures or videos on is that I would have my account on private so only people I know can see my account or I just don't show my face ever. That is how I stay safe online.
