Earthquake Drill

SOME AREAS OF THE UNITED STATES ARE ALSO PRONE TO EARTHQUAKES - MAINLY ON THE WEST COAST. TO KEEP SAFE THERE, SOME SCHOOLS HAVE IMPLEMENTED NEW WARNING SYSTEMS. JUST LIKE YOU MIGHT HAVE A FIRE DRILL OR TORNADO DRILL, THESE KIDS IN CALIFORNIA NOW HAVE A NEW EARTHQUAKE DRILL.

EAGLE ROCK HIGH SCHOOL IS ONE OF THE FIRST TO TRY OUT THE NEW SYSTEM; PUT TOGETHER BY THE U-S GEOLOGICAL SURVEY. THE WARNING TELLS THE STUDENTS TO “DUCK, COVER, HOLD AND BE ALERT.”

SCIENCE TEACHER MOISES DELEON SAID IT WILL HELP KEEP THE STUDENTS SAFE, ESPECIALLY IF THEY ARE DOING EXPERIMENTS IN THE LABORATORY.

MOISES DELEON/TEACHER:

"WITH WORKING WITH ACIDS, FIRE, GLASS WHERE IT'S VERY IMPORTANT, SO IT WILL GIVE US TIME TO HAVE THE STUDENTS PUT THE STUFF AWAY, TURN OFF THE FIRE, PUT ACID DOWN THE SINK IF WE NEED TO DO THAT, SO IT'S VERY IMPORTANT."
