Now, for this week's A P lus, we're recognizing a group of students who applied their business skills to a cause close to their hearts. It's actually from one of the schools we visited in 2018. The fourth graders at Rock Creek Elementary school outside Ashtabula.
The class hosted a book fair inspired by the book, The Lemonade Wars, by Jacqueline Davies. Their teacher, Mr. Urey, tells us they asked the school community to donate all of their old kid-friendly books to sell in the fair. Check it out. It looks like the community really came through.
Students and school staff then shopped for books, which were sold at a reasonable price, plus every student got to choose a free book.
The class donated the money they raised to the Ashtabula Animal Protective League, or the APL. Mr. Urey says they wanted the money to go towards supplies for the animals.
In the end, they raised 380 dollars and 36 cents, which a student committee then presented to the Executive Director of the APL. Student committee members were Maddie, Joy, Avery, Bailey, Olivia, Eva, Russell, Ezra, Hunter, Madilynn and Bella. Huh, great job kids.
We bet there's some animals in Ashtabula County that are much comfier and cozier thanks to these smart and generous fourth graders. Nice work, Rock Creek. You've earned this week's News Depth A Plus.
