Guitarist Jason Vieaux, Flats Festival of the Arts, Parading Downton Abbey and Valravn

JASON VIEAUX:  NPR describes 2015 Grammy-winning guitarist Jason Vieaux as, “perhaps the most precise and soulful classical guitarist of his generation,” and  Gramophone Magazine puts him “among the elite of today's classical guitarists.” He began studying music at the age of eight in Buffalo, New York and went on to study at the Cleveland Institute of Music. Today, he’s the head of CIM’s Guitar Department and he calls Cleveland home. Recently,  ideastream’s Angela Mitchell sat down with Jason and asked him about winning the Grammy for best Classical Instrument Solo for his CD “Play.”

FLATS FESTIVAL OF THE ARTS: Northeast Ohio’s season of summer festivals featuring everything from beer to blues. A new fiesta, the Flats Festival of the Arts, recently caught our attention. It takes place August 19 through the 21 on the East Bank of the Flats.

VALRAVN, CEDAR POINT: At some festivals you’ll find games and amusement rides, but nothing like the one ideastream’s Rick Jackson, Karen Kasler, and Amy Cummings  recently came across at Cedar Point. You’ll see what happened when the three of them took a 20-story plunge on the roller coaster that’s been billed as the world’s tallest, fastest, and steepest ride... VALRAVN!

DOWNTON ABBEY FLOAT:  As the curtain came down on the final episode of Downton Abbey earlier this year an idea was blooming in Pasadena to pay tribute to the show during the Rose Parade. The story comes to us from our sister station in Greater Los Angeles, So-CAL PBS for this edition of Applause America.
