Kathy from Seville asks, “Please explain exactly why “non-Ohio residents” have received the coronavirus vaccine. These statistics are listed on the Ohio coronavirus website.”
On Jan. 27, the state reported 17,888 people have been vaccinated in Ohio who were not residents.
Ohio Department of Health spokeswoman Melanie Amato said the state didn’t put any residency restrictions on who can get the vaccine.
It is likely that the people who live out of state and have received vaccines work here in Ohio, at hospitals or nursing homes, Amato said.
Many people work in one state and live in another. For example, Cincinnati is close to the Kentucky border. Other out-of-state vaccinations could be people living in Indiana or other surrounding states.
Ohio’s vaccine distribution process is done through local vaccine providers, and they determine if they have enough vaccine to distribute to people other than Ohio residents, Amato said.
