Colorado's Fort Carson is already the Army's second-largest training base, but it needs more space to train troops for combat in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The Army wants to expand it to practice maneuvers in a remote canyon 100 miles from the base. Local ranchers are concerned that the army's expansion will destroy the unique ranch economy of the region.
