Lake County Trunk or Treat Attendee Tests Positive For COVID-19

Lake County health officials are investigating after someone who attended a recent community event tested positive for the coronavirus.

The person began showing symptoms one day after attending the Lake County First Responder’s First Annual Trunk or Treat at Captain’s Stadium in Eastlake on Oct. 11, officials said in a news release.

There was a large number of people at the event, and many weren’t wearing masks, officials said.

Because of this, health officials are encouraging people who were in attendance to self-monitor for COVID-19 symptoms, such as fever, cough, and loss of taste or smell.

The individual who tested positive was at the event from 6 to 8 p.m. and was not experiencing symptoms at the time. However, because the person developed symptoms the next day, it is possible the person was contagious at the event, officials said.

People who experience COVID-19 symptoms are asked to stay home and call their physician immediately.

The event was held in the parking lot of the stadium, and neither the ballpark nor offices were in use during that time, according to a statement from the Lake County Captains.

The organization said they will require attendees to wear face coverings and to adhere to social distance measures at any and all events hosted at the stadium.

Health officials encourage anyone with questions about COVID-19 exposure to contact the Lake County General Health District.
