Kasich Chooses Wilmington For State Of The State Address

Kasich will deliver his speech at the Roberts Centre near Wilmington on February 24th.

Wilmington, in Southwest Ohio, is home to new House Speaker Cliff Rosenberger, and is a Republican stronghold.

Kasich won Clinton County in the last two elections, and the Republican candidate has won that county in every presidential election since 1964. And it's also an area that has made significant economic recovery during Kasich's first term.

Four years ago, when Kasich started his first term, Clinton County had a 14.4 percent unemployment rate after DHL moved out, pulling thousands of jobs with it. But since that time, the area has attracted new jobs and now has a 5.8 unemployment rate.

The governor has to have legislative approval to hold his speech in Wilmington but that doesn't seem to be a problem. Rosenberger says he's honored to showcase Wilmington and Southwest Ohio.
