Some national political consultants are scratching their heads about the Republican selection of Cleveland as the sight for their convention in 2016.
Consultant Joe Trippi who's been heavily involved in numerous national Democratic campaigns says the choice of Cleveland over Dallas is "a reasonable gamble" while Republican Ed Rollins, who ran one of President Reagan's successful political bids, says it's "a bad choice." Speaking on the FoxNews Channel Tuesday Rollins said, "Cleveland is the heart of Democrats in Ohio. It's a heavily union city. It's an overwhelming margin (Republicans) have to make up for everywhere else. There might have been other places that would have be better."
Democrat Trippi disagrees. "I understand where Ed's coming from," Trippi says, "but as a strategist from the other side they (Republicans) have gotta pick up places like Ohio and make inroads in cities like Cleveland if they are going to have a chance of getting that state and getting to 270 electoral votes. They already have the electoral votes in Texas."
