The summer break is fast approaching at Cleveland City Council and there are several items in front of it this week as members prepare for a season of once-a-month meetings.
The city’s $25 million plan to replace all of its streetlights with brighter, more energy efficient LED light bulbs will get its second hearing at finance committee Monday.
Last week, members requested information on the other attachments, like security cameras and air and traffic monitors, that could be connected to the new light fixtures but aren’t included in legislation yet.
There’s also a proposal to issue $47.5 million in bonds for work at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport.
That would include a new master plan for the airport, work on the baggage sorting system and improvements to the Ground Transportation Center, where shuttle drop off was moved during terminal construction, which was completed in 2016, but the transportation center is now a permanent site.
The Health and Human Services Committee will also hear from advocates for lead cleanup in the city.
This is the committee’s second hearing on the topic and chair Blaine Griffin has promised legislation to combat lead poisoning.
Council’s last meeting before summer break is June 4 th, after that meetings are scheduled once-a-month before the normal schedule restarts in September.
