The Sound of Ideas and the Sound of Ideas Reporters’ Roundtable are each getting new hosts. Both are familiar voices for ideastream listeners.

Award-winning broadcast journalist Rick Jackson will take over Monday through Thursday duties on the Sound of Ideas, replacing Mike McIntyre, who moves to Jackson’s spot on the Friday roundtable. The changes take effect July 7.

Jackson has been the primary backup host of the Sound of Ideas for the past decade — hosting more than 100 episodes — and has served as the Friday roundtable host for even longer than that. He also was the host of the Ideas television show on WVIZ/PBS and continues to host the award-winning children’s education program, NewsDepth.

McIntyre became the Sound of Ideas host in 2010 while still working as a reporter and columnist for The Plain Dealer, a gig that ended in April after 30 years.

On June 1, McIntyre became ideastream’s executive editor, in charge of news content on all platforms.

“Rick is a natural fit for the Sound of Ideas. He’s already part of the team, he knows our audience and he knows the news,” McIntyre said. ‘I’m happy to still be part of the daily production of the show as executive editor of ideastream, and to stay connected on-air by hosting the Friday roundtable radio and TV shows.”

Jackson started at ideastream in 2003 after a 22-year career in commercial television. He returned to Cleveland in 1999 after four years in New York at CBS, where he hosted “CBS News Up to the Minute.” He was an anchor at WOIO/WUAB from 1999-2002. Immeidately before joining ideastream, Jackson hosted the nationally syndicated series “Village America,” which aired in 2002 on many PBS stations, including WVIZ/PBS.

“I’m really looking forward to being involved in the interactivity that SOI provides – hearing directly from listeners who have always had such thoughtful and sometimes challenging points of view to inject into our conversations,” Jackson said.

Jackson was inducted into the Ohio Broadcasting Hall of Fame in 2001. McIntyre was inducted into the Cleveland Journalism Hall of Fame by the board of the Press Club of Cleveland in 2016.
