With ACA Deadline Looming, National Advocacy Group Rolls Into Cleveland

With just two weeks left to sign up for health insurance on the Affordable Care Act’s exchanges, a national advocacy group aligned with the White House rolled into Cleveland Wednesday.

Enroll America launched an outreach blitz this month, driving a bus from Texas to Ohio to promote the law. President Anne Filipic stepped off the bus during a sign-up event at Cuyahoga Community College and spoke to a small crowd of supporters.

“For those of us who have been working for months, and even years, this is the home stretch," Filipic says.

U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown joined in the Cleveland event and told the audience that they were making history.

"If you're 20 years old now, if your 40 years old now, you're going to look back when you have grand kids, you're going think I was part of making sure the Affordable Care Act worked for the 10s and thousands of Americans who didn't have health insurance," Brown says.

Enrollment in Affordable Care Act plans on the exchange has lagged behind expectations in Ohio. More than 79,000 people have enrolled statewide. Analysts have estimated 812,000 are eligible.
