- Last month, Listeria-infected cantaloupes were linked to 23 deaths nationally.This is a kind of super-bacteria.... It's more heat resistant than salmonella and E. coli, it can grow in temperatures as high as 150 degrees. Freezing doesn't seem to alter it.
