The money goes toward a $220 million cancer hospital to be opened next year. The new facility will be UH's main site for cancer treatment and research.
Stan Gerson, director of the Ireland Cancer Center at University Hospitals, says the Goodman donation will fund a research wing in the new building.
GERSON: We've been able to now devote a floor to our bone marrow transplant service with a set of beds and outpatient spaces specifically designed for clinical research and clinical trials.
The cancer center is part of University Hospitals' 1.2 billion dollar plan to build several new medical facilities, including a new neonatal intensive care unit and a hospital in Beachwood.
