Just in case you weren’t convinced that sugar was bad for you, a report came out in JAMA last week showing that higher amounts of added sugar lowered levels of good cholesterol (HDL), and increased the risk of cardiovascular disease. The study showed that consuming 46 teaspoons of sugar daily (this is the American average, remember?) lowered HDL levels by 20 percent over those who consumed an average of only 3 teaspoons of sugar daily.
