Senator Sherrod Brown joined Representatives Stephanie Tubbs Jones, Tim Ryan and Betty Sutton in Washington Tuesday to pressure holdouts in the house to override Bush's veto when they vote Thursday.
Tubbs Jones said she hoped 10-15 Republicans would vote for the program, which the delegation said would provide health care for 4 million children for about $3.50 (three dollars and fifty cents) a day per child.
The Congresswoman from Cleveland said Bush was being insensitive to the needs of children.
Tubbs: "To say to these young people and families that they can go to the emergency room shows you how out of touch he is with reality. I wonder when the last time was the president walked into an emergency room and saw people laying on guernies."
The money to fund S-CHIP would come from tobacco settlement funds.
Congresswoman Sutton called Bush's veto reckless, and said it would cost as no more than fighting the war in Iraq for 40 days.
