In Northeast Ohio, Trumbull and Wayne County tie for the region's highest number of top-rated Assisted Living Facilities, with 83% of performing above average. However, the same can't be said for Trumbull's nursing homes, which are performing below the region's average, along with Ashtabula and Mahoning counties.
82% of nursing homes in Medina County are providing above average care, 70% in Cuyahoga County. And at least one nursing home in Summit, Stark, Geauga and Portage Counties, citations for providing substandard care. Long Term Care Ombudsman Bev Laubert says they face regulatory action.
Bev Laubert: They might have to pay a fine, they might have a ban on admissions for a while, depending on the scope and severity of the problem.
Laubert says, in addition to the findings of state investigators, Ohio has done something most other states don't. It has listed how satisfied family members are with nursing home care. The only ones left out of the equation are residents themselves, but their views will be included in the next report at the end of the year. Lisa Ann Pinkerton 90.3.
