Clinic Merging Cancer Research with Biomedicine

The Cleveland Clinic and its cancer researchers think they can develop a procedure to treat tumors with chemotherapy directly, instead of exposing the whole body to chemotherapy radiation. That traditional approach is known to lead to other health problems in patients like nausea and hair loss.

The Clinic's Cancer Nanomedicine Program will be lead by Dr. Vinod Labhasetwar, who relocated his whole lab and eight researchers from the University of Nebraska to Cleveland. Dr. Labhasetwar also brings with him several cancer clinical trails and other research he says has been successful in treating tumors in animals. He says by combining efforts in nanotechnology and caner research, methods for treating human tumors can be found more quickly.
