Rainbow Babies Ranked in Top Ten, Again

At number eight on this year's top 10 list, Rainbow Babies and Children is among those recognized by Child Magazine as national leaders in pediatric care. The list is based on a survey composed of nearly 250 questions including survival rates, child-friendliness, and doctor training.

Patti Depompey, the Director of Critical Care at UH, says hospital rankings are becoming increasingly important in helping parents make informed decisions about where to seek the best care for their children.

Patti Depompey: We're finding parents are becoming so knowledgeable and are becoming very engaged consumers. I've been in the health care field for 20 years and there's clearly a difference in the comfort level of patients and families in using the internet to look at quality rankings.

Rainbow's place has slipped over the last few years. Karen Cicero, Child Magazine's senior editor, says this is due to more hospitals taking part in the study, does not reflect any decrease in the quality of care Rainbow provides. Cincinnati Children's Hospital and Columbus Children's Hospital also made the top ten list. Beth Phillips, 90.3.
