Kent State Works Overtime For Students With Autism

Imagine a child, diagnosed with autism, who takes his first steps at age four and doesn't begin speaking until age seven. Now, image that same kid playing college basketball.

Kalin Bennett, from Little Rock, Arkansas, overcame many of his challenges and is now making history. According to the National Collegiate Athletic Association, he's the first student with autism to sign a national letter of intent to play a team sport at the Division 1 level.

Bennett chose Kent State University, not only because he felt comfortable with its basketball program, but because of the school's nationally recognized initiatives and supports for students on the autism spectrum. 

And what are those programs that attracted Bennett and his family? ideastream's Gabriel Kramer visited Kent to learn what the university is doing to assist students on the autism spectrum and to hear from some of those students about their college experience.
