Some Skeptical Of Charter School Reform Bill Language

The charter school reform bill includes some language that has Democrats and members of one of the state’s two teachers unions concerned. Statehouse correspondent Karen Kasler reports.

The Ohio Federation of Teachers says it was left out of the amendment saying that employees of charter school management companies, which get state money, won’t be included in the state’s pension systems.

Rep. Kirk Schuring (R-Canton) said the intent was to make things clear for those who were paying into the state’s pension funds and into Social Security.

“There’s probably some future clarification that we’ll have to do, but first and foremost, there was a situation where there were dual contributions that were being made and this amendment seeks to rectify that.”

The IRS is also said to be looking into the issue.
