The plan went like this: If a state funded university gave an out of state student utility credentials to vote as a resident of Ohio, that university would also have to give that student the in-state tuition rate. It’s a move that could cost state universities more than $300 million. But Senate President Keith Faber says that proposal has been stripped from the Senate version of the budget.
FABER: "We had a significant number of members on both sides of the aisle who requested removal of that so we ceded to those requests at this point. I think there’s still an issue that’s worthy of being discussed as to why people are issuing no-bill bills but that’s a different discussion."
Faber says dragging the issue of tuition into that discussion just didn’t make any sense at this point.
